The hectic pace of springtime has kept me away from Elixir and I hope visitors who have developed an interest in this kind of vital information presented here, please accept my apology.
I have decided to focus on a leading edge nutritionals book that cover the information I have researched but, I will be posting blogs from time to time in the meantime. I just may not be writing on a weekly basis at I had expected to do. Instead I am organizing material for a formal publication that should be of interest to those who want to be in the know but who just do not have the time or inclination to do the necessary resourcing and research of information.
A neighbor told me yesterday that she had seen a famous doctor (and friend of Oprah Winfrey) on television discussing the benefits of purple foods. Yes, purple foods and all deeply pigmented vegetables, sweet potatoes, carrots, cranberries, all dark berries (the darker the better) etc. have substances that prevent disease and so unless one has allergies, having them in the diet is important and necessary. The reason why dark fruits and vegetables prevent disease and the clinical results that back up claims made by others are too numerous to go into now as time does not allow for it but, for those who don't have the luxury of eating large quantities of fruit for whatever the reason, remember that you can do the next best thing and that is, supplementation.
Leading edge purple vegetables, namely, purple corn for example can be purchased off the web and is densely packed with antioxidant compounds. I say 'leading edge' because clinical trials may be underway and findings may have come in on some of those trials so that health food stores and vitamin outlets have not had the opportunity to offer such supplements to their customers, the products are just too new and simply not in the stores yet. However, these kinds of products are available for sale off the web so keep that in mind.
It's always wise to do some amount of Googling when it comes down to it. You need not spend hours and hours doing so as a researcher might but, for to expand your understanding of the value of these products. I would advise you to do so.
Purple corn, (so called "forbidden") black rice, blue purple potatoes and other deeply pigmented fruits and vegetables including purple cauliflower (I just found out there was such a thing!) and difficult to find in stores. Why? I don't have the answer except to say, dark and black and good for you has been a forbidden combination for all the obvious reasons and for any number of reasons and that goes back a long way in history / When, what could be further from the truth?
Denatured white products with any trace of "darnkess" removed, white bread, white sugar and other staples of the American diet have been promoted and produced some pretty bad results in terms of diabetes and other health conditions, obesity associated with the consumption of products that have little if no nutritional value. They are not dark or deeply pigmented that much we can be sure of.
Time, mortality concerns, research and good, common sense appears to be changing the scenario and by necessity. It is time we started consuming antioxidant rich fruits and vegetables in order to restore health!
